Why have there not been any new last names in such a long time? People have been asking and complaining about this for a long time. It doesn’t seem like answering the question would be so hard a thing to do.
Here’s an example of a forum post from another user representative of people’s concerns:
Are Lindens Lazy with Last Names?
Alright, it used to be hard to get that perfect first and last name match, but now it’s just downright impossible for new people to get any names without having to resort to using jibberish for a first name. For 6 months there have been no new names added or taken away from the last name list, what is this telling us?
I don’t personally need any new last names, I’m just wondering what the answer to this question is.

One lesson to learn from this letter to the lindens is to not send email to support@secondlife.com. Doing so gets an automated “Our system has changed” message.
Upon forwarding the message shown above to Robin, I received the following response:

Hi Suezanne,
The process to add new names is rather time consuming and it fell to the bottom of the priority list. However, yesterday we added about 150 new names.

So those who’ve been disturbed by the lack of new last names should be content for a while, I suppose, while I am left with a now obsolete post regarding a solved problem.
